Having seen the first wave of outsourcing 20 years ago, this feels all too familiar. TCS employees, shipped from Chennai to US suburbs sleeping 3 to a room, paid poverty wages, facing hostility from workers who were forced to train their replacements.
Those same employees, having who simply had hoped for a better life for their families in the US, now find themselves working for Nagarro through a US contractor, who has found yet more creative ways to exploit them, all the way from Gurgaon. Working on projects for NYC schools system, in STEM jobs, being paid less than the janitors that sweep the floors.
$19/hr, no healthcare, in the wealthiest city in the history of civilization. Working on multi-million dollar government contracts, yet treated like animals. Packed 20 to a conference room, during the height of a Covid surge, we are clearly seen as disposable — both as employees, and sadly, humans. Unpaid orientation, training, sick, mandatory overtime, the list is long.
